Welcome to Kennall Vale School – a small village Primary school serving Ponsanooth near Truro. We are on the A393 Redruth – Falmouth road, close to the Kennall Vale Nature reserve, a picturesque river valley containing the remains of Kennall Vale Gunpowder Works. Kennall Vale School opened in new, purpose built premises in 1993 and, since then, has been extended and completely refurbished. The school has 5 classrooms, and at present 136 pupils on roll organised into mixed-age classes.
We pride ourselves on being a warm and friendly school, creating an environment where children feel safe and want to learn. At Kennall Vale School we place great emphasis on relationships both within school and between school and home. We also have a great PTA– The Friends of Kennall Vale. The Friends of Kennall Vale offer excellent enrichment opportunities for children throughout the year, raising funds for the school as they do so.
The staff regularly review the curriculum to ensure breadth and challenge. We have a highly skilled governing body which works closely with the school to ensure standards are high and offer a valuable viewpoint of the school's community.
We encourage healthy eating and exercise, in the firm belief that physical well-being leads to emotional well-being, resilience and self-confidence. We therefore offer a range of clubs which both teachers, teaching assistants and external providers lead. We include additional physical education for pupils we believe will benefit from this and we have two fully trained THRIVE/TIS practitioners on the staff.
The school has excellent links with Ponsanooth Preschool who also offer ‘breakfast and after school clubs’.
We promote healthy living and are particularly proud of our delicious lunches, cooked here on the premises by Carol and Lynne. The food is of an excellent standard and the menu is varied with options for those with food intolerances.
The school endeavours to ensure communication is clear and informative. The school secretary, Mrs Catherine Goward is available every day if you wish to contact her within school opening hours. The school day starts at 9:00 and ends at 15:15.
